Her work also delves into the relationship between humans and nature, agrarian issues, land struggles, spirituality, ancestors, nostalgia, and stories from her childhood.

Ella Wijt Depok, Indonesia

Ella always thinks of painting as her first language. Her interest in art grew as a child after watching her late grandfather paint landscapes and portraits. She then studied painting herself, began exhibiting in 2005, and later attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She returned to Indonesia in 2017.

Ella's works are interpretations of her life experiences, literature, mythology, and womanhood, expressed through paintings and installations. Like plucking from an arrangement of flowers, Ella tends to use leftover or excess materials from factories and various types of construction and manufacture, as well as items that we often find in department stores, such as knick- knacks and plastic toys. Also those items she finds in her natural surroundings: flowers, leaves, weeds. She will clean, repair and fill the object with the meaning and path of her life.

Ika Vantiani Jakarta, Indonesia

Ika Vantiani is a self-taught Indonesian artist & curator based in Jakarta, renowned for her collage work that delves into themes of womanhood, media, and consumption. After earning a degree from the London School of Public Relations, she spent 13 years in the advertising industry before dedicating herself to the arts.

Her artistic journey began in the early 2000s with zine-making, utilizing manual collage techniques due to a lack of computer design skills. This hands-on approach evolved into a profound engagement with collage as an art form, leading to domestic and international exhibitions and workshops.

Ika's notable project, "Kata Untuk Perempuan" ("Words for Women"), documents the vocabulary used to describe women in everyday life through collaborative collage workshops. This initiative fosters discussions on societal perceptions of women and has been featured in various art spaces.

Ika's dedication to art and craft has established her as a prominent figure in Indonesia's contemporary art scene, inspiring discussions on gender, media representation, and consumer culture.
